He was close to joining Torino or Hull City, but neither move materialized and now Panucci will stay with the Giallorossi, at least until his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. "I publicly apologise to the fans, the club, and to my team-mates," began a statement by the former Milan defender, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport. "I do not want to fail in my responsibilities or find justification for my mistakes. As I have always done, I take responsibility for my errors and I will return to the club and the coaching staff for the final part of the season." The 35-year-old then gave his reason for his outburst against coach Luciano Spalletti immediately following the Napoli match. "With regards to my statements, that I wished to leave, they were dictated in a moment where I was excessively nervous, I've been in Rome for eight years and I will continue to honour these colours until the end," concluded Panucci.
