After just one week of training, the Giallorossi had suffered injuries to Jeremy Menez, who strained a muscle, Max Tonetto, who had a knee complaint, and Simone Perrotta, who severely strained his left thigh and will sit on the sidelines for the next two months. To make matters worse, Goal Italia has reported that injury almost struck again in yesterday’s session at their Trigoria training complex, after Francesco Totti was on the receiving end of a tough challenge by John Arne Riise. The Norwegian supposedly attempted to tackle his captain from the side, which then saw him drop his weight onto the leg of Totti, leaving him in pain and unable to stand up. A stretcher was immediately rushed onto the pitch, and many had feared that it was a serious blow to the knee or the ankle he injured prior to the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Fortunately, however, the medical staff have deemed that it was not as serious as first thought. Riise in particular will be breathing a sigh of relief, as he certainly would not have wanted to be the man responsible for ending his captain’s season before it even got underway.
