Controversial British graffiti artist BANKSY has smashed his own auction recor
d yesterday (25OCT06) by netting GBP62,400 ($116,775) for artwork featured on
BLUR's THINK TANK album.
The spray painting, which features a couple embracing in deep sea diving out-
fits, sold for 10 times its estimated value at London auction house Bonhams.
The anonymous buyer, who is "delighted" with his new purchase, said it will
remain in the UK as part of a collection of Pop Art.
Banksy broke records last week (18OCT06) when his green stencil of the iconic
Mona Lisa sold for GBP57,600 ($103,680). Another piece of Banksy's art created
for the same Blur album, called YOUNG CHILD WITH BIRD, sold for four times
its estimate - at GBP31,200 ($58,387).
