The eyebrow-raising 0-2 that FC Porto managed to carry home from Russia has
raised hopes that the Portuguese champions – and current domestic leaders –
can manage to nab the top spot and cruise through to the last sixteen in first
place.
Ricardo Quaresma highlighted the importance of the early goal that he scored
for FC Porto as well as the next target for the Dragoes.
"I think the result
was really helped by scoring after only two minutes. The early edge let us
control the game and that's what we did", he explained.
"Our opponents [CSKA Moscow] were a tough team to play both home and away, but
four points out of six means that we can know prepare ourselves for the
Arsenal game at home with more hope of a first place than before and we want
to beat Arsenal", added the 'Cigano'.
Midfielder Paulo Assuncao, back in Ferreira's first eleven in place of the
more offensive Jorginho, stressed the difficulty of wresting the three points
from the Russians.
"It was a really hard-won game, but we did it and that will
give us extra strength for the home game against Arsenal. That's going to be
as hard, or even harder, but we'll have our fans backing us up."
Centre-back Bruno Alves stressed the importance of the increase in
self-confidence that the win gave the Lusitanian team.
"We're building up our
belief in really doing well in the Champions League this season and I firmly
believe that we're playing better and better football each time we step out
onto a field. It's great, but we can't flag now", he warned.
For forward Helder Postiga, FC Porto's top scorer this season,
"It was an
excellent result against a strong side that have just won the Russian
championship. The FC Porto secret is a mix of quality players and a real sense
of a common goal. We're approaching the end of the Group Phase and all of us
want to go through in first place", explained the number 23.
