: 1.
: For some, the power of omens and signs is easily to dismiss as (i) belief,
: based on (ii) evidence, that the future can be foretold by specific,
: unrelated events. For others, though, those same omens and signs are clear
: and reliable markers of (iii) events.
: (i)a dogmatic/an irrational/a heretical
: (ii)empirical/substantiated/circumstatial
: (iii)incipient/hypothetical/erroneous
: Ans: irrational/substantiated/incipient
For some, 有一種對 omens 和 signs 的態度
others 對 omens 和 signs 的態度是 clear and reliable
some 認為 omens 和 signs 是 irrational
也就是 rational, reliable or clear
for others 來說,
: 2.
: It is ironic that Mary Shelley's focus on Victor's passivity render the reader
: incapable of sympathizing with the protagonist, much as Dostoyevsky's depiction
: of the darkest places in the human psyche once caused his empathy for his
: charactors to be ___.
: rescinded/commiserated/occluded/disregarded/lambasted
: Ans: disregarded
儘管(much as) Dostoyevsky 也做了一樣的事
Mary Shelly
focus on Victor's passivity
--> 造成 the reader incapable of sympathizing with the protagonist
Dostoyevsky
depiction of the darkest places in the human psyche
--> his empathy for his charactors to be ___.
(Mary Shelly) incapable of sympathizing
<--> (Dostoyevsky) his empathy for his charactors to be [disregarded]

2F:推 Fabregas4 : Belief,但第二題,想問much as是類似like嗎?
