However, the two-time Cy Young winner was able to recover on a night when he said he didn't have his best stuff and recorded a win in his first World Series start. His line for the night: 5 2/3 innings, four earned runs, eight hits and only three strikeouts in the Giants' 11-7 win over the Texas Rangers at AT&T Park. It wasn't a good start, but it was good enough to beat the clobbered Cliff Lee(notes). While the ending of the game was great for Lincecum, manager Bruce Bochy described his start as "less than auspicious." Here's what happened: With one out and runners on first and third in the top of the first inning, Lincecum fielded a quick comebacker from Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz(notes) Lincecum quickly noticed that Michael Young(notes) had broken home from third and ran at him with the ball for what would have been the second out of the inning. But as Young returned back to third, Lincecum failed to throw the ball to either third baseman Juan Uribe(notes) or shortstop Edgar Renteria(notes), who were standing near the bag. Young was ruled safe and the bases were loaded with Ian Kinsler(notes) coming to the plate. Luckily for Lincecum, Kinsler grounded to third and Uribe made a nice throw for a 5-3 double play that first baseman Aubrey Huff(notes) finished with a nice scoop. No harm, no foul. So why didn't Lincecum throw the ball? He said after the game that he thought there were two Rangers runners at the bag. In reality, Lincecum saw Young and mistoook either Uribe and Renteria for another runner. Whoops. Lincecum allowed for the possibility of being nervous in the first frame of his first Fall Classic. --
