Former Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu found dead

OS ANGELES (AP)—Former New York Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu was found dead,
an apparent suicide in the wealthy suburb of Rancho Palos Verdes.
The 42-year-old Irabu was found at 4:25 p.m. PDT Wednesday, county sheriff’s
Sgt. Michael Arriaga said.
“He was found dead by an apparent suicide,” Arriaga said.
Los Angeles County coroner’s official Ed Winter said his office was not
releasing any circumstances of the death other than it was being investigated
as a suicide. The autopsy will be performed Friday or Saturday.
前洋基投手伊良部秀輝被發現過世，是明顯的自殺，地點是在Rancho Palos Verdes
的豪宅區。當地警察Michael Arriaga提到：『42歲的伊良部在周三下午被發現的，
而且是明顯的自殺致死。』
洛杉磯驗屍官員Ed Winter提到，除了經過調查的自殺外，他們還不能確定死因，周五
或週六才會做大體解剖。
Neighbors described Irabu as a quiet, unassuming man who had apparently grown
despondent recently because of a split with his wife.
Mary Feuerlicht said she was about to go pick up her son on Wednesday morning
when a man came running down the driveway from Irabu’s large two-story home,
perched atop a hill with views of the harbor and downtown Los Angeles,
pleading with her to call police.
鄰居形容伊良部沉默寡言而且也是個很謙虛的人，但最近因為和妻子離婚顯的有點沮
喪。Mary Feuerlicht 提到，周三早上她大概要送他兒子出去時，有一位男士從伊良
部的家跑下來車道上，懇求她打電話給警察。
Feuerlicht said she was later told by sheriff’s deputies and the man who
asked her for help that Irabu’s wife had left him and took their two young
daughters. She hadn’t seen the wife or the kids for the past couple of
months and didn’t think anything of it because they regularly left town for
the summer.
“When I saw him for the past month or so he seemed kind of down,” she said.
“He wasn’t kind of perky like I’ve seen him before.”
Feuerlicht還提到，稍後有代理警長以及那位向她要求幫助的人士告訴她事情的經過，
伊良部的老婆離開他了，而且還帶走他們兩位小女兒。過去幾個月她也不曾見過伊良部
的妻子或小孩，而且也想不到會發生這事，因為他們總是固定的會在夏天離開此地。
她說：『過去幾個月我見到他時，看來似乎有點情緒低落，不像以前我見到他總是很有
元氣的樣子。』
