With five hat-tricks and 34 goals in 31 league games, SC Heerenveen's
brilliant Brazilian striker Afonso Alves is well on course to collect the
ESM Golden Shoe award for the 2006/07 season with time fast running out for
those who seek to catch him.
Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is finishing the season strongly
and is now closing in on AS Roma captain Francesco Totti, who occupies second
place with 22 Serie A goals to his name. The Dutch forward is third after
scoring his 21st goal of the campaign in the 4-3 Primera Division victory
against RCD Espanyol at the weekend.
