常常有新聞說某某球員說差點就加盟新堡之類的說法 諸如 Kezman, Rooney (痾...) 最新一篇報道(from Footymad) 就說到港嘴的中場Pedro Mendes曾多次被新堡看上, 最後都談不上 還有講到 Given 對於 Sol 沒有加盟新堡覺得很失望 (話說這是嘴砲德太信任巴布人所以沒簽他) 以下是報導內容 　　Portsmouth midfielder Pedro Mendes claims both Graeme Souness and Sir Bobby Robson tried to sign him for Newcastle. 　　And goalkeeper Shay Given hoped Sol Campbell had moved north rather than south, when he left Arsenal. 　　Mendes: "I know that Newcastle were interested in me at various times. When I played in Portugal (with Porto) and, more strongly, after I left Tottenham (in January). 　　"In the end, no agreement was reached, but I am happy at Portsmouth anyway.
