They began brightly against Villa, taking a fourth-minute lead through Michael Owen, but were torn apart in the second half. "We built a very good base on which to go and win the match - we handled everything Villa threw at us," added Keegan. "I told the players to pick up where they left off [after half-time] but before you knew it we were getting bullied, especially by [striker] John Carew." He continued: "These players have taken a lot of knocks.
