It was Davis' first appearance in a game since Jan. 16, when he was kicked in the Achilles by Toronto's Morris Peterson. Davis has missed New Orleans' past 17 games and had played in 17 of 53 games this season. On Monday, Davis told ESPN.com he felt unwanted by the Hornets because of comments Scott made last week about the length of Davis' absence. Davis told reporters Wednesday morning that his Achilles was still sore, he had no explosion and likely would miss two more weeks. Scott said Davis would not play Wednesday against Seattle or Sunday against Denver or Monday against Dallas. "Me and Coach cleared the air," Davis said Wednesday night. "I wasn't sitting out because I was frustrated. We talked about basketball, how I saw myself as a basketball player and just realizing that, after the talk going home, I was inspired. I wanted to come out here and help and be back in the mix. The longer I wait, the harder it is to get back in the flow. So I'll just start now while I'm rusty and work my way forward." The NBA trading deadline is 2 p.m. today. Before training camp began this summer, Davis, through his agent, requested a trade because he felt the Hornets didn't do enough in free agency to upgrade to contender status as they moved into the Western Conference. Davis' decision left open the question of whether he was showcasing his ability to play before the trading deadline to increase his marketability. Scott said Wednesday that the news, relayed through trainer Terry Kofler as Scott drove home after the morning shootaround, excited him. "My initial reaction was, 'Wow.' I was just like you guys, from a week to two weeks out to all of a sudden, 'I can play,' " Scott said. "I had a conversation with him a little while ago, and he just thought when he said a week or two before he could play it would be more of a conditioning thing. He wanted to get that Achilles stronger. I understood that. "But I also wanted to know that this was exactly what he wanted to do. He relayed to me, there are 29 games left and 'Coach, I want to play all 29.' " Davis' decision to play Wednesday was Davis' alone, Scott said.
