He threw three innings of relief Saturday against the Astros in Houston, allowing one run on three hits. John Van Benschoten was scheduled to make this start, but the Pirates wanted to see what Duke could do before the end of the season. Duke is 3-1 with a 1.42 ERA against the Cubs ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ in Chicago, including his first career complete game in 2005. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Cubs: Hill did not get a decision in his last start against the Reds. The lefty gave up four runs on seven hits and one walk over 4 2/3 innings, striking out seven. He sort of fell apart in the fifth -- and manager Lou Piniella felt he'd lost some of his velocity.
