The Pirates may soon have a new option in right field, as FOXSports.com reported on Monday that the club is "closing in" on acquiring free-agent outfielder Ryan Church. The Web site, citing multiple Major League sources, added that it's possible a deal could be announced within the next few days, but one source said "steps in the process are still remaining." Church batted .273 with four homers and 40 RBIs in 359 at-bats over 111 games with the Mets and Braves in 2009. Swapped for Jeff Francoeur on July 10, Church hit .260 in his final 44 games of the season in Atlanta, then the Braves non-tendered him in December.
