Pirates' Clint Hurdle named 2013 NL Manager of the Year To the surprise of precisely no one, Clint Hurdle of the Pirates has been named 2013 National League Manager of the Year by the BBWAA. In the voting, Hurdle was first on 25 of 30 ballots and thus easily bested his fellow NL finalists Don Mattingly of the Dodgers and Fredi Gonzalez of the Braves. Hurdle's Pirates in 2013 not only notched their first winning season since 1992 but also won 94 games and made the postseason despite playing in a division that yielded three playoff teams. Pirates owner and chairman Bob Nutting released the following statement: “On behalf of the entire Pirates organization, I would like to congratulate Clint on being named the National League Manager of the Year. Clint's passion is infectious. He challenges everyone around him to push forward and improve a little bit every day. He is a great leader, a great citizen of Pittsburgh, and a tremendous family man and human being. I have the deepest respect for Clint. I have seen firsthand the hard work, commitment and passion that Clint brings every day, not only to our team but also to our community.
