先直接認栽：我對英文詩有成見, 所以除了提一下外, 不打算就這小 說名目做出任何與內容的牽拖 XD Consider Phlebas 這個名目來自 T.S. Elliot 的 "The Waste Land" 詩篇中的 "Death by Water" http://hermes.hrc.ntu.edu.tw/lctd/asp/works/109/text.htm 這部小說是 Iain M. Banks 的 Culture 系列的第一部, 講的是 Culture 與 Idiran 大戰下一名傭兵的故事 故事其實很直接, 一部 Culture 的人工智慧 ("Mind") 在逃離 Idiran 攻擊時避到一顆星球內部, Idiran 派出了一名來自該星球的殺手間諜 Bora Horza Gobuchul (以下稱 Horza) 企圖奪取該 Mind。 其他出場的角色還有 Horza 在出發時意外加入的傭兵團，以及追捕他的 Culture 特工 Balveda 要我找出什麼「深意」我大概找不出來，因為我大部份時間都在享受其中 的快節奏動作場面，一些在談 Culture 的烏托邦世界，及 Contact、 Special Circumstances 的部份也略嫌隔靴搔癢 Banks 自己的說法是他想要寫一部吐槽「主角隻手力挽狂瀾公式」的小說， 因為以 Banks 在後面的附錄描述的戰爭結果來說，整部小說的內容幾乎 可以是「What was it all for?」 For fun, I guess.
