最近在唸"歐洲與沒有歷史的人" 加上之前看的書 與之比較 英國的這份道歉實在太幽默了 (很抱歉我這麼說) 所以 文章標題這樣下是跟史料比較的結果 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/6185176.stm 政府為了明年3/25奴隸販賣(the Slave Trade Act of 1807)兩百年紀念做準備 包括06.11.26布萊爾發表在針對黑人社群的報紙上"new nation"的正式道歉聲明 (非常羞愧 也深深的感到遺憾跟抱歉) "It is hard to believe what would now be a crime against humanity was legal at the time. "I believe the bicentenary offers us a chance not just to say how profoundly shameful the slave trade was - how we condemn its existence utterly and praise those who fought for its abolition - but also to express our deep sorrow that it could ever have happened and rejoice at the better times we live in today." 黑人社群的領袖認為這種道歉不夠 或者 正式道歉背後的意義究竟為何 Activist Paul Stephenson told the BBC: "The prime minister could have gone further, but nevertheless it is a step in the right direction." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4694896.stm (這份教會的道歉其實比首相早 於8 February 2006) The Church of England 英國教會對於原本只是知道奴隸販賣的說法做了修正 同時認為自己也必須對這段歷史負責 (英國教會很多 我其實搞不太清楚究竟是哪個組織在說話) Rev Simon Bessant, from Pleckgate, Blackburn, described the Church's involvement in the trade, saying: "We were at the heart of it."(這個人提出) The amendment was supported by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and Archbishop of York John Sentamu. (兩位老先生支持 也許是這兩個教區的主教) Dr Williams said the apology was "necessary". He said: "The body of Christ is not just a body that exists at any one time, it exists across history and we therefore share the shame and the sinfulness of our predecessors and part of what we can do, with them and for them in the body of Christ, is prayer for acknowledgement of the failure that is part of us not just of some distant 'them'." He(Rev) added that when the emancipation of slaves took place in 1833, compensation was paid not to the slaves but to their owners. (也就是當時教會主流是隱忍的 相較於李文斯頓及其他少數前往非洲的人 李據文獻是比較有意識的反對人口販賣 在英國演講或到當地傳教) He(Rev) said: "We were directly responsible for what happened. In the sense of inheriting our history, we can say we owned slaves, we branded slaves, that is why I believe we must actually recognise our history and offer an apology." The synod passed a motion acknowledging the "dehumanising and shameful" consequences of slavery. 黑人社區教會代表回應: 這確實對居民是痛苦的回憶 The debate heard from descendants of the slave trade including the Rev Nezlin Sterling, of Ealing, west London, who represents black churches.
