Juande Ramos has praised the bravery of the players who stepped up to take a penalty in the shoot-out during our heartbreaking UEFA Cup exit at the hands of PSV Eindhoven last night. We lost the tie 6-5 on spot-kicks having levelled the aggregate scores thanks to Dimitar Berbatov’s 81st minute strike. But after a dominant display against the Dutch Champions and such a cruel end to our European adventure, our Head Coach is philosophical. Juande said: “We can have no regrets because we wanted to win the match on the night and we did that. It came down to penalties and if JJ had scored, we ’d have gone through. It’s heads or tails. “Every player who takes a penalty is courageous, so I can only congratulate those players for their courage. “Everybody is sad because we did everything we could and came so close to going through, but it wasn’t to be.” Now Juande has challenged his players to pick themselves up for an assault on the top half of the Barclays Premier League for the remainder of this season.
