Araki has dealt with a range of subjects, from plants and animals to cities, but his representations of the female body are indubitably the key to his success in Japan and in the West. In the latter context in particular, which has become highly sensitive to the representations of gender power relations, a photographic practice so clearly based on the commodification of the sexualized female body meets with an enthusiastic and largely uncritical reception. Although problematic by Western standards, Araki's practice of representation is "exonerated" by means of an exoticized interpretation whereby the evocation of "cultural difference" diverts critical attention away from phallic-patriarchal conventions of representation. 所以說大家喜歡荒木經惟 對西方人來說是莫名其妙應該要被批判的 XD 然後西方人看荒木經惟，就把這個當作東方落後國家性別不平等的表現來"欣賞" ?? --
