Pluripotent stem cells mature and can differentiate into a variety of cells with specific functions. As the pluripotent stem cells are actively proliferating and become increasingly committed to a specific cell line, they become progenitor cells. Human growth factors regulate the proliferation, differentiation, and maturation of stem cells and progenitor cells by activating signaling proteins within the cell after binding to receptors on the cell membrane.
