A number of American businessman have been heavily linked with a takeover, including Tom Hicks, John Fisher, and most recently billionaire political activist George Soros. Italpetroli have confirmed that there has been approach to buy shares, but would not release a name. "On Thursday a representative of Italpetroli received a visit from a representative of a potential investor interested in acquiring shares of the club,” a statement from Italpetroli reads. “During the meeting there has been an informal interest expressed for the acquisition of the shares package of AS Roma. "We would like to state that during the meeting the financial figures have not been defined and no agreement has been reached. "We would like to confirm that there has been no procedure to sell such shares."
