嗯....上面有趣的几篇。联想到不少事情，其中一个， 是去年底收集到的一个 "情报" 。作者是孟加拉来的， 一起报告对印度社会学和人类学发展颇重要的印度学者 M. N. Srinivas时，顺便跟他拿到的孟加拉人类学发展 大概。有些东西还是满诡异的.... 呃，比如说 "Paradise of anthropological research".... (因为一不小心就会想到 "fool's paradise" 就会想问 "Hell of anthropological research"在哪里? 或有没有 "fool's hell" 之类的 >_< ...给他有点挥之不去.... ....还好有括号这种 类普遍符号存在 XD) 总之孟加拉的人类学发展，也是颇有趣的。贴在这边给大家讯息上的一点参考了。 By Nazmul Hasan Development of Anthropology in Bangladesh: Like India ,large portion of Bangladesh is actually rural area and the challenge was to incorporate those part of the country to bring them and to develop appropriate strategies for socio-economic development and for this understanding of those societies was essential. 1958- Bangladesh academy for rural development for developing strategies (Comilla Model) based on cooperatives. Establishment of Sociology at Dhaka University ---but the survey type work was inappropriate for real understanding. Prof. Nazmul karim who received Ph.D from Columbia University founded sociology dept. at D.U and he thought sociology must be social anthropology in Bangladesh for many years to come. In the department of sociology social anthropology was taught as part of the degree -only one course. The practice of anthropology was going on through that dept. in a very small scale. 1952- Levi Strauss went for a short visit and described Bangladesh as "Paradise of anthropological research" that stimulated many. FIRST ANTHROPOLOGICAL RESEARCH: BARD was attracting few scholars from outside the country to engage in social research. Prof, Peter Bertocci from Michigan did his Ph.D research in Anthropology at Comilla in connection with BARD in 1972 that was the first anthropological research in Bangladesh. Prof. Anwarullah Chowdhury of Sociology dept. at Dhaka university did the first anthroplogical research among any Bangladeshi's, who was a student of Andre Betteille in his Ph.D level. In around 1980's there was a process going on for establishment of anthropology as more and more were getting their degrees in social anthropology in Ph.D level. Prof. Nazmul karim, prof, Anwarullah Chowdhuryand and few others wanted to open anthropology dept. at Dhaka but since it was already a big university establishing new department become challenging to convince administrator .In the mean time another university thatbwa is just opening were consulting about the possible subjects to open with . Initially the proposal was to open sociology dept but prof.N.K ,Prof. A.C and few others demanded it should be anthropology instead of sociology and in 1985 -the first department of anthropology was established at Jahangirnagar University. Anthropology at Dhaka University actually started in 1993 and Professor Chowdhury was the founder of the dept. Now in total 5 universities have separate anthropology departments in Bangladesh. Initial research :initial research was mainly on social organization, rural class structure social inequality, Agrarian structure, Kinship pattern, Belief system, different professional communities, mainly these were the focus of studies . This was largely the case for India too. About the trend of anthropology in Bangladesh -I think the focus of is very much on the applied side of social anthropology, physical anthropology is not that much developed, Issue that mainly centered around development anthropology, emphasis on rural communities, Issues of ethnicity and nationalism are the main problem field of present focus.. A process of vernacular movement is also in progress. 21st February is the international mother language day , that is to honor the sacrifice of Bangladesh on 21st February for the mother language Bengali. Pakistan, thought minority in terms of population, were pressing as the power holder, that Urdu should be the mother language and in the process of movement against it some Bangladeshi's were killed by Pakistani force including some Dhaka University students on 21st February. And that day became the mother language day. It stimulated many to practice anthropology in Bengali. --
