Tapping the Vein /by Marcin M Manek
...Alternative Rock,Pop,Goth Rock...
It's a neat trick when a band is capable of blending soft and sultry vocals with subversively groovy synth loops, and then turning the song around on its head and belting out some angst ridden almost-grunge, complete with a full hard guitar background. Tapping the Vein has perfected it - just take a listen to Everything and say it isn't so.
Tapping the Vein is composed of four members; a seemingly standard number complete with vocals, guitars and bass. The fourth instrument set is that favored of rock bands that lean towards the goth - that is, intriguing repetition of synthesized sounds to produce a fluid, moving backdrop that carries the composition through. That element is referred to as "programming and sampling," and Eric Fisher is a true master.
That is not to say that the rest of the band doesn't have something to do with the amazing sound they produce. While the guitars provide that kick that turns the song into something completely different (mentioned above), it is truly Heather Thompson's voice that carries the degree of goth-generated angst into an otherwise rock creation. Occasionally sultry and seductive, other times ultra-aggressive and overpowering; Tapping the Vein has it all and can easily appeal to the goth, the metal and the rock
crowds.
