The Milwaukee Bucks' 24-game losing streak in Phoenix finally was snapped Thursday night behind a clutch fourth-quarter performance led by Monta Ellis and Mike Dunleavy. The Bucks overcame a 10-point, second-half deficit to win, 98-94, the franchise's first victory in the Valley of the Sun since February 1987 and its first victory at US Airways Center after going 0-19 there. Bucks coach Jim Boylan was so excited that he walked several steps onto the court and pumped his fists after a three-pointer by Dunleavy gave the Bucks a 94-86 lead with 57.4 seconds left. After the game Boylan showed his players the faded box score of the Bucks' victory so long ago, when current Bucks assistant Sidney Moncrief was in the starting lineup. Nine Milwaukee coaches - including Dunleavy's dad, Mike Sr. - had tried and failed to win in Phoenix. "We actually did not discuss it at all (before the game)," Boylan said. "In years past we've tried that a couple times and said, 'Come on guys, it's been 20-some odd years since we've won here.' "It's never seemed to work. So I took the opposite tack and didn't say a word about it. But I did have the (1987) box score and we were able to throw it up there and celebrate with the guys. It was interesting for them to see. "That was 1987 and it was a long time ago. A lot of these guys weren't even born yet." Ellis scored 10 of his game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter, and Dunleavy added eight as the Bucks (20-18) finally pulled away in the final minutes. Dunleavy made a bounce pass to Larry Sanders for a dunk to give the Bucks an 88-86 lead with 2:35 remaining. And a huge block by Sanders on an attempted shot by Marcin Gortat led to a scoop shot by Brandon Jennings, putting Milwaukee ahead, 91-86. It was all part of a 10-0 run capped by Dunleavy's three-pointer. Sanders finished with 19 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks, both in the final quarter. Jennings and Dunleavy each added 16 points for the Bucks. "If they would have brought Jim in in '88, we would have been good," Dunleavy said of Boylan. "It's an amazing record of futility. You really can't fathom it. "But here we are. We broke the seal." The Bucks led by 12 points early in the second quarter, but Phoenix (13-28) rallied to take a 56-53 halftime lead. And Milwaukee still trailed, 75-70, entering the fourth quarter. "Lately we haven't been playing a great overall game," Dunleavy said. "But we've hung in there to play well in the fourth quarter and down the stretch of games." Shannon Brown paced the Suns with 20 points off the bench, and Luis Scola added 16. The Bucks started quickly, bolting to a 7-0 lead behind five points from Jennings. Milwaukee grabbed a 32-22 lead after one quarter behind 10 points from Jennings and eight by Ellis. Suns big men Gortat and Jermaine O'Neal both were in early foul trouble with O'Neal picking up his third foul with 8:56 left in the second quarter. But Brown gave the Suns a huge lift off the bench, throwing in a pair of dunks while scoring 13 points in the second quarter. The Suns scored the final six points of the quarter to grab a 56-53 halftime lead. Dragic hit a jumper and Scola scored inside and added two free throws. Phoenix outscored Milwaukee, 34-21, in the quarter. Boylan was unhappy with the Bucks' defense and removed starters Jennings and Ellis together with 4:08 left in the third quarter and the team trailing, 69-63. Ellis returned early in the fourth quarter and instantly made an impact. He hit a jumper, made a steal and fed Ekpe Udoh for a layup. A three-pointer by Dunleavy tied the score at 80-80. After baskets by Michael Beasley and Brown, Ellis hit two tough jumpers to tie the score again.
