David (Virginia): My AL Cy Young favorite is Kelvim Escobar. He's got a 3.04 ERA and 16 wins. Wow! Trevor (Mesa, AZ): It's gotta be C.C. Sabathia. He beats Santana every time they face each other, and he's been ridiculous at the end of the season. He has not given up more than 2 earned runs in a start since July 19. Phenomenal! Justin (NY, NY): Clearly I am biased, but my pick is Wang. This, however, is assuming he stays course and leads the league in wins, and can lower his ERA from around 3.6 to the lower 3's. Although not a strikeout pitcher by any means, Wang is as good a ground-ball pitcher as there is. It is rare that teams can rally for more than 2 or 3 runs against him in any one inning. Infact, the damage against him almost always occurs in one single inning, when groundballs happen to find holes in the infield consecutively. Sean (Cleveland): The Cy Young is Sabathia's to lose. Aaron (St. Louis): Since Cy Young goes to the best pitcher and not "most valuable" pitcher, I would have to say Dan Haren is the AL Cy Young. His numbers are great and his quality start percentage is through the roof. Steve (Ohio): Biased, but it has to be C.C. Sabathia. Leads the leauge in IP, top five in ERA, Wins, WHIP, total strikeouts, and most "advanced" metrics as well. In a very close race, C.C.'s IP advantage carries him to the top. BK: Kelvim Escobar has to get a longer look. On a staff where he is "technically" the #2 guy he places in the top in almost every major pitching cateogry. This is a guy who has actually be historically a very good pitcher but, with comical run support. Lane (Kukuihaele, HI): Erik Bedard has done more with less. He starts a game knowing his offense is pathetic and if he gives up only one run there's a good chance he might lose the game. If he's in a Yankee, Red Sox, or Indian uniform then he's the 2007 Cy Young Award winner. Brady (Colorado): Josh Becket, no question. Tied for the league in wins, 7th in ERA, has the least runs allowed, only to be tied with the Cardinals failure Anthony Reyes, who has 79 less innings pitched than Becket. Becket for AL CY YOUNG! Anthony (Beaufort,SC) : Im going with Erik Bedard. He has been nearly perfect playing on a very bad and slumping O's ball club. Avi (Atlanta): I have to go with CC Sabathia. The Indians would not be in the same position without his Cy worthy performace. He is a top leader in strike outs, wins and has a great ERA. Zach (Mount Vernon, IN): It's got to be Sabathia. He beats the so called ''best pitcher in the majors'' in Johan Santana almost every time they face off. The fact that he is on a winning club helps his case too. Joe(Brooklyn,NY): I have to go with Justin Verlander on this one. With Kenny Rogers injured and Jeremy Bonderman struggling, he really has stepped up and put up some numbers. And he has put up a respectable 16-5 record. Lane (Kukuihaele, HI): Erik Bedard doesn't usually have the luxury of pitching with a 3 or 4 run lead. He doesn't have a great defense behind him. Plus the O's relief pitching belong in Triple A. Aaron (Jessup, Pa.): Is everyone forgetting about THE best pitcher in baseball, Johan Santana? His numbers beat every pitcher in the AL, and if he pitched in the NL, it would be down right scary. People are treating the CY Young like the MVP. It's about the best pitcher, not who's most valuable. Although without Johan, Minnesota would be basement dwellers. Mike (Arlington, VA): Wang is clearly the CY Young.. and just think if he was healthy to start the season Lane (Kukuihaele, HI): Bedard has better numbers than Santana except for wins. Bedard's numbers are comparable to every pitcher. It's not his fault he plays on the worst team of all the Cy Young contenders. It's too bad he'll get overlooked by most of the voters. He's already overlooked by the fans of Sportsnation... Rob, Chicago: Its all about CC Sabathia here. 17 wins, 3.15 ERA, 185 Ks, his stuff is absolutely filthy and his club definitely wouldn't be the same without him. He's a workhorse! Zach (Mount Vernon,IN): It's got to be Sabathia. He beats the so called ''best pitcher in the majors'' in Johan Santana almost every time they face off. The fact that he is on a winning club helps his case too. Ricardo ( Salinas, CA): At first i had to go with my man Dan Haren, but after a while, he isn't exactly the toghest pitcher on the block anymore... It's all about C.C. Sabathia because he's got 17 wins, the 3.15 ERA, and the 185 k's, so if that doesn't make a good pitcher I dont know what does. Willie (rocky mount, N.C.): Wang!! Not a dominate Strike out pitcher, but thats not what pitching is about, he is solid every start, even when thr yanks stunk he pitched well and kept them floating, now look they are leading the wild card, he deserves alot of credit for that. realbbbb (FLA): anyone who says that "Wang is clearly the Cy Young" has never heard of a thing called Run Support. Put Wang on the Indians or Angels and he doesn't come close to 18 wins. Would Wang still be Cy Young with 14-15 wins. Heck no. Ricardo ( Salinas, CA): Has to be C.C. Sabathia with the 3.15 ERA, the 185 K's, and the 17 wins. If that doesn't scream Cy Young, I don't know what does. Joe Monte (Pacific Beach): CC is the frontrunner right now w/ 220 innings, which is very important in the modern era of baseball. If Wang beats Beckett on Saturday, I give Wang the nod over Beckett in the CY award running. Don't forget Wang only had two starts in April coming off injury. Justin (Evansville, IN): Josh Beckett has been an exemplar of consistency (18 W, 8.57 K/9, 3.27 ERA) for the best team in baseball. How can you argue against those credentials? Lane (Kukuihaele, HI): Bedard!! A dominant Strike out pitcher, but that's not what pitching is about, he is solid every start, and the O's stink, he deserves a lot of credit for putting fans in the seats in Baltimore. Touche Wille (rocky mount, N.C.) Joey,San Diego: Chien Ming Wang. He doesn't have a lot of strikeouts, but that's because it isn't his game. He has as many wins as anyone and an excellent sinker that can get anyone to ground out. Philip (Williston, ND): C.C. Sabathia, aka the work horse, is the guy, with 4 complete games (2nd in AL), a 3.15 era and 17 wins, how can you go any other way. Oh, and his team is up 5 1/2 over the Tigers.
