Canada opened the campaign against former European champion Greece, falling 0:1 in the Men’s International Friendly at A.E.L FC Arena. It was Canada’s first ever match in Greece. 'I would like to thank the Hellenic Football Federation for the match,' said Canadian national head coach Stephen Hart. 'It was very important for our development to play against this standard of team that is ahead of us in the ranking.' Canada played a good match, but in the end could not score the equaliser after going down a goal in the 61st minute. Greece midfielder Giannis Fetfatzidis scored his first international goal after a Canadian mistake. 'We had a strong first half, but we struggled to adjust early in the second half and Greece’s movement was good,' said Hart. 'We found our form in the last 15 minutes, but when we needed a goal it wasn’t there.' Of note in this match, Canada debuted the new Umbro kit. The Canadian team wore the red top with black shorts.
