--> 把小麦扬到空中，风会把麦糠吹走，留下品质好的麦子。）
群众向他说：「那麽，我们该作什麽呢?
他答覆他们说：「有两件内衣的，要分给那没有的；有食物的，也应照样做。」
税吏也来受洗，并问他说：「师傅，我们该作什麽呢?」
他向他们说：「除给你们规定的外，不要多徵收!」
军人也问说：「我们该作什麽呢?」
他向他们说：「不要勒索人，也不要敲诈；对你们的粮饷应该知足!」
那时，百姓都在期待(默西亚)，为此，人人心中推想：或许若翰就是默西亚。
若翰便向众人说道：
「我固然以水洗你们，但是比我强的一位要来，就是解衪的鞋带，我
也不配。衪要以圣神和火洗你们。簸箕已放在衪手中，衪要扬净自
己的禾场，把麦粒收在仓内；至於糠秕，却要用不灭的火焚烧。」
他还讲了许多别的劝言，给百姓传报喜讯。

10 When all the people asked him, 'What must we do, then?'
11 he answered, 'Anyone who has two tunics must share with the one who has
none, and anyone with something to eat must do the same.'
12 There were tax collectors, too, who came for baptism, and these said to
him, 'Master, what must we do?'
13 He said to them, 'Exact no more than the appointed rate.'
14 Some soldiers asked him in their turn, 'What about us? What must we do?'
He said to them, 'No intimidation! No extortion! Be content with your pay!'
15 A feeling of expectancy had grown among the people, who were beginning to
wonder whether John might be the Christ,
16 so John declared before them all, 'I baptise you with water, but someone
is coming, who is more powerful than me, and I am not fit to undo the strap
of his sandals; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
17 His winnowing-fan is in his hand, to clear his threshing-floor and to
gather the wheat into his barn; but the chaff he will burn in a fire that
will never go out.'
18 And he proclaimed the good news to the people with many other
exhortations too.
