In the poll to decide 2005's top performer in internationals, carried via the FA's website, the Chelsea midfielder won 29 per cent of the votes, 11 per cent more than Steven Gerrard in second and 13 per cent more than third-place Wayne Rooney. Lampard played nine times for England last year and scored three goals. He will be presented with a trophy by one of the fans to have voted before the game against Uruguay on March 1st. He said of the vote: “The recognition you always crave is from the fans. Especially the England fans who follow us wherever we go. To win it last year was great but to win it again this year, when there are so many other fantastic individuals in the England set-up, is a brilliant feeling for me.” England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson added: “He is one of the most improved players that I have seen in the last few years.
