Asked Friday if he would rather be mostly a practice player for a winning team or playing heavy minutes for a bad team, Moore's quick answer offered a window into why the Bulls keep hitting on the right end-of-the-bench players. "I'd rather be on a winning team," Moore said. "Winning games, even if your role is small, everyone is important. There are more accolades for everyone. It's more fun. "I enjoy this atmosphere and culture. I knew it'd be a good group of guys to be around, but it's better than expected. Everyone communicates with each other. Everyone respects each other." And what do you know? Moore can play too. With Kirk Hinrich out and not practicing again Friday because of a strained left hamstring, Moore is logging fourth-quarter minutes along with another unheralded contributor, Aaron Brooks. Brooks will stay in the rotation when Hinrich returns. Moore likely won't. And the fact the East Chicago, Ind., and Purdue product knows this and it doesn't affect his approach underscores the character of a long list of players — Kurt Thomas, John Lucas III, Nate Robinson, D.J. Augustin — who have provided the Bulls timely boosts in recent seasons. It also speaks to the culture created by management, which has identified these fits, and the coaching staff, which demands accountability and plays to these players' strengths. "My job is to get these guys ready when I'm not playing," Moore said. "Keep them on their toes in practice and ready to play. I knew I was coming to a deep team and might not play a lot. But I also knew guys could get hurt and you have to be ready. I guess Coach trusts me to be out there at crucial times." Indeed, Tom Thibodeau does. "He's smart, tough, doesn't make mistakes," Thibodeau said of Moore. "You can play him at the point or (shooting guard). It's a credit to him. He's very well-prepared." So is Brooks, who arguably is in his best stretch since winning Most Improved Player honors with the Rockets after the 2009-10 season. He's averaging 11.2 points in just 20.1 minutes and shooting 43.3 percent from 3-point range. Thibodeau cited Brooks' ability to play with either Derrick Rose or Hinrich and paid Brooks his ultimate compliments by calling him "tough" and "a winner." Brooks sounded a lot like Moore when asked about his role. "I just try to do what's necessary," Brooks said. "Just being that glue piece, making the right play." Brooks and Moore excused themselves. They had weights to lift. "Work gives you confidence," Moore said. "I put the work in and know what I can do." --
