→ chenjo:有句话几天前要告诉1f.演化论没说适者生存 123.204.198.185 01/03 20:14 → chenjo:那是社会达尔文主义创始者斯宾塞说得 123.204.198.185 01/03 20:15 我是觉得这个板讨论生物学理论很离题，所以推文里说了两句就没再说了。既然 chenjo 有锲而不舍的科学精神，我当然要响应一下来说清楚。 我不知道台湾是怎麽教 evolution theory 的，适者生存又被讲解成什麽样，但 我是在大陆学生物学和在美国看英文科普文章时都读到 "survival of the fittest" 这一观点的。翻译成进化论还是演化论在我看来都不太重要，只要懂 得理论的内容就好了。我是理工科的，社会达尔文主义没有什麽涉猎，这里就只 谈生物学。 为了避免又在中文译名上纠缠，有争议的词下面我就都用英文好了。 大陆的生物学课程对 evolution theory 的教学在我看来没有什麽错误，大致梗 概就是生物表现出的性状由基因决定，基因会在繁殖下一代时出现随机的变异， 这变异造成下一代的生物个体之间出现差异，其中适应环境的个体就存活下来， 不适应环境的个体就早早死掉，不能再繁殖。适应环境而存活的个体的下一代继 续因基因变异造成差异，进一步更适应环境的变化就继续得以存活而繁殖下一代。 这样经过很多代的繁衍，结果就是最後存活的个体都是有适应其生存环境的基因 变异的个体，而其它具有不适应环境的基因变异的个体都或早或晚死掉了，这就 是所谓的 survival of the fittest。 Survival of the fittest 这个说法是 Spencer 最早提出没有错，但 Darwin 并没有反对这个说法，而是自己也使用过。据 Wikipedia： http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survival_of_the_fittest Darwin first used Spencer's new phrase "survival of the fittest" as a synonym for "natural selection" in the fifth edition of On the Origin of Species, published in 1869. Darwin agreed with Alfred Russel Wallace that this new phrase - "survival of the fittest" - avoided the troublesome anthropomorphism of "selecting", though it "lost the analogy between nature's selection and the fanciers'". 由上面这段引文可以看到由于 survival of the fittest 这个词容易被误解， 现在生物学家已经不用，而改用 natural selection。你可以说大陆的生物教学 还在用过时的名词 (进化论和演化论之争在我看来也是这一类的事情)，应该改 用没有歧义，现代生物学普遍使用的名词，这我都同意。但上面也说到 Darwin 自己也赞赏过 survival of the fittest 这个词，并不能说後来这个词被滥用， 失去了 Darwin 的本义，就说 evolution theory 没说 survival of the fittest。这种说法我是不能同意的。大陆现在的生物学教材不知道用什麽名词 了，但这里是两岸板，如果要讨论 evolution theory，最少批评前先了解一下 对方的背景，看看他说这个词是什麽意思，再说对方「对某某理论理解错误」， 似乎比较好一些。 最後说一句，英文 survival of the fittest 这个词之所以後来被误用，我觉 得原因之一是 fit 这个形容词既有适应周边环境的意思，又有身体健康强壮的 意思。中文如果译成适者生存，并不像英文那样容易造成误解误用，我觉得除了 不符合现代生物学的惯用术语之外，没有太大的不妥。 --
