Carreras, who turns 22 on Sunday, had been training in the Dominican Republic with Edgar Mercedes. Carreras can throw as hard as 93 mph, though some scouts say his fastballs generally sit in the 86-89 mph range. He also mixes in a hard cutter/slider , a breaking ball and a change-up, according to Badler.
