标题[请益] 刑法第185-4条(肇事逃逸罪)的英译

各位朋友先进专家们您好，
刑法第185-4条：
驾驶动力交通工具肇事，致人死伤而逃逸者，处一年以上七年以下有期徒刑。
在法务部全国法规资料库入口网站的英译为：
A person who flees after the motor vehicle he drives has caused an accident
resulting in death or injury of another shall be sentenced to imprisonment
for not less than one year but less than seven years.
这英译令我困惑： cause 的主词可以是 vehicle 而不是 person 吗？
请教：上列英译算是 valid English 吗？有更精准的英译吗？
我个人尝试的英译是如下：
A person who flees after having caused an accident resulting in death or
injury of another when driving a motor vehicle shall be sentenced to
imprisonment for not less than one year but less than seven years.
