各位好,请教一下
在牛津辞典看到这样的解释:
report
verb
[transitive, intransitive] to give people information about something that
you have heard, seen, done, etc.
The company is expected to report record profits this year.
The committee will report on its research next month.
https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionari..._1?q=report+++
想请教,既然report可以当及物动词,也可以当不及物动词,那麽以下两句有何差别呢?
The committee will report on its research next month.
The committee will report its research next month.
----
同样的情况也发生在elaborate
elaborate
verb
[intransitive, transitive] to explain or describe something in a more
detailed way
elaborate (on/upon something)
He said he was resigning but did not elaborate on his reasons.
elaborate something
She went on to elaborate her argument.

elaborate something和elaborate on something有何区别呢?
以上内容有贴在英语论坛,若有回应会贴回来让大家参考。谢谢!

PS 不过韦氏高阶认为elaborate及物和不及物的意思是不一样的。

-------
有母语中文的网友说
report - tell something happened
report on - tell more information about what happened

6F:→ dunchee: "report" vs "report on": 除了 jut... 的回答外,「字面 03/11 01:06
7F:→ dunchee: 上」的 on 也是一个线索 -- 你自己字典查 on 03/11 01:06
好的,感谢D大!
网友jutfrank回应:
Without "on", the verbs are being used transitively. There is a direct
relationship between verb and object.
With "on", the verbs are being used intransitively. There is an indirect (or
less direct) relationship. The verb is done in a less focused, more
roundabout way.
"report profits" could be done very directly, in a single phrase or even less.
(Annual profits: $5.23)
"report on research" will probably need a lengthy document. There is much more
to say. It cannot be done directly.
----
至於D大说,「on是线索」,我目前觉得比较有可能的是这个:
牛津高阶查"on":
preposition
about something/somebody
例句:
a book on South Africa
She tested us on irregular verbs.
