标题[文法] 几句英文文法/语意

念书时的英文教材Word Power Made Easy一直都没有好好念
连考试也都考了好几次才过
最近下定决心重新拿起打算好好念一遍
但有诸多文法/语意凭我这弱弱的英文程度实在是难以理解
所以请教一下版上各位高手
1. You prefer solitude or at most the company to the one person to a crowd.
￣￣￣ ￣￣￣
这边的prefer跟後面不加to be有什麽不一样吗?
或是有某种强调或弱化前後的作用?
另外一般来说at most意思不是最多吗?
譬如I'll pay 200 dollar for the chair at most.
但感觉上这边的at most应该不是这种意思
在这句上该做何解释比较好呢?
2.You're quite normal—in the sense that your personality is
like that of most people.
￣￣￣
为何这里要加个that of?
与like most people语意上有什麽不一样呢?
3.So now you have a carefully constructed defense against
￣￣￣
further hurt—you hate all women
这里的against前面是否该加to?
加与不加的差异在?
