Yesterday,I got this "musical offering"CD of the pianist who just
visited TW. This is the sort of recording I always anticipate, in which the
different voices of Bach's fugue are so independent that I can not believe it
is played by human's two hands. The exllence of his technic reminded me of the
Shostakovich Op.87 recording of Taiwan pianist 林佳静.
The ricercar a3 is much better than that of Tatiana Niklayeva, though
the later is warmer. Its ricercar a6, the famous six voice fugue dedicated
to Frederick the Greart, is played with a brisk tempo. Instead of showing the
complexity of this work, he makes me feel that the fugue is idyllic yet every
single note is clearly played without hesitation.
I recommend this recording to Bach lovers and I feel sorry that I did not go to
his "the art of fugue" concert in Taipei.
