标题[Ask ] past tense

I just graduated from a college, and join a Eng conversation class now.
At the last class, we talked about my life in college, teacher say
"Hey, zi9d9c, you are so young, don't use the past tence" with smiling.
I get confused now.
I have graduated from school, so I have to use the past tence when I talk
about my life in school whether I am young or not, doesn't I?
