The Norwegian international, who had been linked with big money moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, officially put pen to paper on the contract last night. Rovers boss Mark Hughes was keen to reward the 24-year-old for his impressive form over the last 18 months, and the new deal means Pedersen has now become one of the club's highest earners, reflecting his importance within the squad. Chairman John Williams has hailed the move as a major coup' for the club because it should now end all speculation regarding the former Tromso star's future. A delighted Williams told the Evening Telegraph: "We are absolutely thrilled to have agreed a new contract with Morten. "He's an important player for us and this was an important contract to get sorted out." After a tricky start to his career in England, Pedersen has been a revelation for Rovers since he forced his way into Hughes' plans following a Cup tie at Cardiff 18 months ago. The free-scoring midfielder has chipped in with a number of vital - and spectacular - goals during his Blackburn career, making him one of the most highly-rated left-sided players in the Premiership. But apart from his performances on the pitch, the likeable Norwegian is also hugely important to Rovers from a commercial point of view as well. As one of the biggest stars in Scandinavia, Pedersen is arguably Rovers' most marketable asset and his presence in the side was one of the main reasons why Bet 24 decided to get involved in sponsoring the club. Now Rovers are close to striking a deal with Danish TV company MTG, a parent company of Bet 24, which will see highlights of Rovers matches screened across Europe next season.
