The former River Plate star has found first-team opportunities at Camp Nou hard to come by in recent seasons with coach Frank Rijkaard having deemed him surplus to requirements. However, a serious injury to Samuel Eto'o has granted him a second chance and the diminutive hit-man grasped it with both hands with a goal in the 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao last weekend. His refusal to move on despite a lack of playing time was attributed by many to the hugely lucrative contract he enjoys at Barca, but Saviola insists he is motivated by a desire to prove himself at the club and has not ruled out the possibility of extending his stay. "I don't care about those who have said I am staying at Barcelona just for financial gain," he stated. "I have a personal challenge at this club and it's not about other people it's about me as I don't play football to make other people happy. "If the opportunity to extend my contract at Barcelona comes then it would be my first choice.
