An early Marek Cech goal was helped along by a handy own goal by the locals who caused the Dragoes a lot of problems last year. Special mention goes to a Quaresma who was simply superb. After Cech (10 min) scored, Naval didn't give up the ghost and attacked Helton several times, Gilmar forcing the ex-Vasco keeper into an acrobatic save. Luck wasn't on the home team's side, however, and straight away Helton fed the ball to Bosingwa, who galloped up the right flank and banged a cross in that Mario Sergio (26 min) slid past his own keeper. FC Porto unsuccessfully appealed for two penalties; one on Lucho and the other on Anderson – strangely enough the self same duo that are being tracked by Barca – although the midfielders seemed more likely to get Oscars rather than spot kicks in both moves. The second half was marked by a thickening fog that killed off the game for the spectators, and FC Porto simply defended their comfortable lead. The only slight scare was an Orestes attempt after a China corner, but nothing else. The result leaves Jesualdo Ferreira's boys standing above their challengers, although tonight's Sp. Braga - U. Leiria game could see the Bracarenses join the Dragoes at the summit. --
