Juande Ramos had positive and negative points to ponder after another impressive start led to another 1-1 draw - this time at Wigan. The positive was again our first half performance as we stormed out of the traps, took the lead as early as the sixth minute and created a host of chances. However, the negative was allowing the opposition back into it and, for the third-successive match following Blackburn and Middlesbrough, the spoils being shared from a promising position. Dimitar Berbatov slotted his 23rd goal of the season - our 100th in all competitions - to hand us the early advantage. Within minutes Chris Kirkland saved from Steed Malbranque and Robbie Keane fired wide. Emile Heskey responded for Wigan after 12 minutes but we remained in the ascendency - Alan Hutton tested Kirkland, Keane couldn't quite pick out Jermaine Jenas in front of goal, Berbatov looked to be hauled down by Mario Melchiot as he went for a Jenas free-kick and Ryan Taylor cleared off the line from Michael Dawson. The home side edged a quieter second period with Marcus Bent smashing the best chance against the woodwork. "Overall a point isn’t a bad result for us," reflected Juande at the JJB. "We came here to win, we had opportunities to do that but when the scores were levelled it took away some of the initiative we had in the first part of the game. That goal took the wind out of our sails. "We started well. It was a good style of play, we had a good pace to our game and we created chances. However, as I said, when they equalised it balanced things out between the two teams. "In the second half admittedly we were slightly weaker and at the end of the day a draw is perhaps a fair result. I think we were fairly equal over the course of the match.
