"Ethanol is a product that would not exist if Congress didn't create an artificial market for it. No one would be willing to buy it," McCain said in November 2003. "Yet thanks to agricultural subsidies and ethanol producer subsidies, it is now a very big business - tens of billions of dollars that have enriched a handful of corporate interests - primarily one big corporation, ADM. Ethanol does nothing to reduce fuel consumption, nothing to increase our energy independence, nothing to improve air quality." 能够讲这种话的政治人物，相信具备了相当程度的良知与勇气。 然而2006年年底，准备竞选总统的McCain说出了这段话: "I support ethanol and I think it is a vital, a vital alternative energy source not only because of our dependency on foreign oil but its greenhouse gas reduction effects," he said in an August speech in Grinnell, Iowa, as reported by the Associated Press. 立场显然有了大幅度的转变，不过这对他在Iowa的选情助益有限。 不过根据这篇2008年5月8日的报导，McCain看来是又回到了原来的老立 场。 http://tinyurl.com/65n2eu 尽管有这样转变立场的纪录，不过这篇纽约时报的OP-ED ("The World’s Worst Panderer " http://tinyurl.com/3lp3g4) 甚至对McCain偶尔说些笨拙的谎言有不错的评价XD 该作者指出:"This year he claimed that he liked ethanol after all, but he was so manifestly insincere and incompetent in this pandering that the episode was less contemptible than amusing. ... ... 中略 His most famous pander came in 2000, when, after earlier denouncing the Confederate flag as a “symbol of racism,” he embraced it as “a symbol of heritage.” To his credit, Mr. McCain later acknowledged, “I feared that if I answered honestly I could not win the South Carolina primary, so I chose to compromise my principles.” 看来McCain虽然做为政客的职业需要，偶尔仍得说些言不由终的话，不过以 政客这行的标准来看，McCain已经比其他人更有勇气说出自身的信念了。 ...似乎有点离题，不过虽然我和该文作者一样不赞成保守派路线与保守派政治 人物，不过仍然不免觉得McCain的性格相当有趣XD Senator Obama praises ethanol plant in Pekin http://tinyurl.com/6cuj9s 这一篇是2005年的新闻，取自Obama的参议员官网。上面可以看到在2005 年时，欧巴马是大力支持乙醇燃料补助政策的。第一篇也提到Clinton女 士早先也支持这项政策，不过我暂时还没找到直接引用Clinton相关说法 的新闻。 Obama: Change in ethanol policy might be needed http://tinyurl.com/56fgq4 不过，在这篇今年五月四日的新闻 ，Obama跟Clinton的立场都转向反对。 总之，McCain是从上个世纪末就开始表示反对立场，虽然之间不免用些甜话 讨好Iowa选民，不过应该还是看的出他对这个议题的真心话是什麽。Obama在 2005年时支持，现在则改成反对。当然McCain先知先觉，值得敬佩，不过既然 两边在这项政策目前的立场都差不多；Iowa种玉米的农民就算不爽气也只能往 肚里吞了。(还是要改成支持能够让他们赚大钱的小党或独立参选人?)两大阵营 哪边拿在Iowa胜出的关键，看来应该是谁比较有能耐让Iowa选民忘记他们跟 这个议题的关联吧XD -- 让原本痛苦、僵化的作文课，变成创意纷飞、想像奔驰、文思泉涌的学习乐园 http://www.empower.idv.tw/ --
