A lot was expected of the 31-year-old when he arrived at Inter from Valencia in 2003. However, he struggled in Italy and only made 35 appearances in three injury-plagued seasons. Rosario Central finished 15th in last season’s Primera Division but have made a number of pre-season signings including Costa Rica World Cup star Paolo Wanchope. Gonzalez is believed to have turned down a more lucrative offer from Argentine champions Boca Juniors in order to play for the Canallas, and may not keen to return to the Nerazzurri. Kily was released by the Nerazzurri earlier in the summer after his three-year deal expired. Coach Roberto Mancini instead chose to renew Alvaro Recoba’s contract making the Argentine surplus to requirements.
