MILAN - F.C. Internazionale has been granted permission from the Italian
Football League and UEFA (for the 2006/07 Champions League) to withdraw the
club's number 3 shirt, worn 634 times by Giacinto Facchetti.
From Friday 8 September 2006, Argentine defender Nicolas Burdisso will wear
the number 16 shirt. "I am proud to be the last Inter player to wear the number
3 shirt," Burdisso said. "I am honoured to change number today as a mark of
respect for and in memory of Giacinto Facchetti, a man and not just a president,
who was very close to me when I went through a difficult time with my family."
