http://www.scvmaxtv.com.sg/maxtv/eng/feature/0,1164,99-0,00.html The Doc's In Kit Chan, for years our most successful export in the Mandarin pop scene, took a timely break from music last year to play a doctor in the hit Hong Kong TV drama, Healing Hands II. We talk to the consummate singer about her acting experience. Long before anyone has heard of Stephanie or Stella, Kit Chan was already blazing a trail across the continent and making a name for herself in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Certainly, for almost a decade, the homegrown recording/performing artiste, poet and self-confessed dreamer was our most successful and best-known export in the Mandarin pop scene. In fact, she's still making waves now. Her first ever local concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in June was a huge success. And Singaporeans who caught Kit's brief but outstanding performance at the 2001 Taiwan Golden Horse Awards will certainly be proud that she's our very own talent. These eight years in the entertainment industry have certainly not dulled Kit's zest for life or her eagerness to take on new challenges. This unwillingness to rest on her laurels has pushed her to try her hand at acting. Although she has previously appeared in the TCS drama, Tales of The Third Kind, Kit's metamorphosis from established singer to admired actress really began in 1997, when Hong Kong "Heavenly King" Jacky Cheung invited her to co-star in his mega-musical, Snow.Wolf.Lake. Despite performing alongside Cantopop superstars Cheung and Sandy Lam, Kit's strong, silky vocals and alluring stage presence shone through easily, winning the hearts of audiences and the media in Hong Kong and many parts of Asia. Since then, she has starred in Legend, another c ritically acclaimed Hong Kong musical based on the life of the late Teresa Teng, and appeared in a cameo role in the well-received local film, Eating Air. It was Healing Hands II, however, that made Kit a household name among TV viewers in the territory and the region. http://www.scvmaxtv.com.sg/maxtv/eng/feature/0,1164,99--0-4,00.html The Doc's In Kit Chan, for years our most successful export in the Mandarin pop scene, took a timely break from music last year to play a doctor in the hit Hong Kong TV drama, Healing Hands II. We talk to the consummate s inger about her acting experience. Kit plays Ji Langping, a modern and forward-thinking doctor who is not afraid to love. She falls for her colleague, Li Guozhu, played by Bowie Lam, and becomes a single mum as the plot develops. Is she not afraid of damaging her public image as a role model for young people? She is, after all, currently Singapore's Youth Ambassador. Kit explained, "On first impression, Langping does seem to be a spoilt and rebellious woman - not exactly traits that will endear her to anyone. I'm not afraid to portray such a character. Since I've decided to take up acting, I've got to play every part as best and as professionally as I can. My image as a singer shouldn't affect the role." She added that she grew to like her character, as Langping is a woman with a strong personality and is clear-headed when it comes to affairs of the heart. "Langping's idea of romance is to find true love in this world. Although she did not find it in the end, she wouldn't hurt or destroy someone else's happiness." Playing lovers, Kit and Lam shared quite a few intimate moments on screen, which included a kissing scene. Kit confessed that such scenes are not easy to shoot. "I've to pretend that everyone's not there. Thankfully, we took only one take. Later, however, we had to do the scene all over again because the director wanted to readjust his camera angles." Kit was all praises when it comes to Lam, her co-star and good friend. "Lam's a very professional actor who likes to help newcomers. I remember on the first day of filming, he taught me how to take notes and gave me tips on acting. I learned, for instance, you could remove blood stains using milk cleanser." Although there is quite a gap in their age, Kit said that Lam is "young at heart," and easy to work with. In fact, he made a surprise guest appearance at her first-ever concert here at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in June. Asked to compare singing and acting, Kit replied, "As a singer, you stand alone on stage. As an actor, you get to perform with different people, so it is more fun." Said the vivacious singer-actress, who speaks fluent English, Mandarin, Cantonese and French, "Actually, I accepted the role in the drama by chance. At that time, my Hong Kong record company had liaisons with TVB, which resulted in an offer to act in their serial. I watched Part I and felt it was very good. But the main thing that attracted me to it was that the character is a departure from my image as a professional singer." http://www.scvmaxtv.com.sg/maxtv/eng/feature/0,1164,99-0-4-11,00.html The Doc's In Kit Chan, for years our most successful export in the Mandarin pop scene, took a timely break from music last year to play a doctor in the hit Hong Kong TV drama, Healing Hands II. We talk to the consummate singer about her acting experience. If time and opportunity allow, she said, she would definitely continue to act, although she has no plans to give up her recording career anytime soon. Said the multi-talented artiste, who has written her own songs and published a compilation of poems last year, "Be it singing, acting or writing, for every single thing I do, I've to be responsible to myself, and will perform to the best of my ability. I regard life and my career in the same way - you experience different things at different stages, the most important thing is to learn to enjoy each and every stage." Live, learn and enjoy. Sound advice? Yes, listen to the Doc. Don't miss Healing Hearts II, starring Lawrence Ng, Bowie Lam, Florence Chan and Kit Chan, beginning 11 Dec, Mon - Fri, 9 pm on VV Drama (Ch 55). --
