在加州这件事可以很简单解决，填个living will，
找两个不是受益人的朋友签名见证就好。
而且通常401k啦，life insurance等等都会要写明受益人的顺序跟百分比吧。
要是没写那不是没几毛钱就是默认配偶应该继承财产...
