As the reigning holders of three major trophies, Sevilla is currently experiencing the greatest period in its history, having won five competitions in just two years - two back-to-back UEFA Cups in 2006 and 2007 (they are only the second team to successfully defend the UEFA Cup), the Copa del Rey, the UEFA Super Cup in 2006 (when they beat Barcelona 3-0) and the Spanish Supercopa, as well. The question is, can the Sevillistas add the Superleague Formula championship to their fantastic haul of silverware? One thing’s for sure - everyone here is very excited about welcoming our first ‘home’ club to the beautiful race: “The Superleague Formula grid is filling fast and we are thrilled to welcome our first Spanish club,” says SF boss, Alex Andreu. “Sevilla has recorded some outstanding results across Europe in recent years and I am sure the club is very keen to continue this European success on the race track as well. Being a Spanish-based company, having our first Spanish club join the championship is a great moment for us. ” The plan is for coach Manolo Jiménez and club captain Javi Navarro to unveil Sevilla’s red and white Superleague Formula car to the Spanish media next Thursday, 8 February at the club’s home ground, Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
