All That We Let In / Indigo Girls
THE ROLLING STONE REVIEW
There's a lightness about the Indigo Girls' ninth album, even on the songs
about heartbreak. Nineteen years into their career, the duo shows it can still
surprise listeners, on songs such as Amy Ray's improbably jumpy, ska-tempoed
"Heartache for Everyone" and Emily Saliers' wearily hopeful "Fill It Up Again."
Musically, Indigo Girls' New South roots show on "Perfect World," which
wouldn't have been out of place on the B-52's' Cosmic Thing. Ray's hard-edged,
forthright "Tether" -- the longest and most electric track here -- asks and
answers its own question: "Can we make it better?" The answer is yes.
