(Jimbo, via e-mail) I don't mean to antagonise the locals but looking back at the highlights I probably did. So I hereby apologise to the German nation. I'm sure they're bothered! -- Q:If not you, who's the best midfielder in the world? What does he have that you don't? (Stanley Evans, Bridgend) Zinedine Zidane has been the best attacking midfielder over the last three or four years. He can score, create, pass and he has unbelievable skill. I just think that certain parts of his game are better than mine. He's more skillful and experienced for a start. -- Q:What went through your mind when you realised that your back pass was going to be interceped against France at EURO 2004? (Navid Mahabadi, Los Angels) I wanted the ground to swallow me up. I didn't want to be there. It was a horrible feeling. When I passed it back I didn't see Thierry Henry, but then he appeared and I just thought: "Oh, no, he's not going to miss because He's so quick and so clinical." I put my hands up straight away in the dressing room and apologised. Mistakes happen in football and people appreciate it when you take the blame for it. I made David James look bad though and I felt guilty for that. -- Q:What are the main differences between Gerard Houllier and Rafa Benitez? Who do you prefer, and why? (Paul Taylor, Wandsworth) One's French and one's Spanish. They're two fantastic managers but every manager in the world is different and the tactics and training is different under Rafa Benitez. When he got the job I'd heard how good he was. His CV spoke for itself - Valencia were champions of Spain under him even with Barcelona and Real Madrid having all those great players. I was suprised that he won the European Cup in his first season, but I think he'll win more trophies at Liverpool. He's very detailed in everying he does, from set pieces to formations. Houllier was more relaxed although he liked to get the players fired up before a game. I enjoyed playing under Houllier and I enjoy playing under Rafa. -- Q:What did Jose Mourinho say to you after the League Cup final against Chelsea? Did you get any stick from your team-mates about the own goal? (Nick Mackey, London) He just said "Good luck until the end of the season." He was OK.
