The 24-year-old was chasing the ball down the right flank 10 minutes into the game and was knocked off balance by an opposing defender. As he fell, his right leg twisted under him and buckled above the ankle. Coach Raymond Domenech told French television: "We all saw what happened and it is hugely disappointing." Cisse, whose future at Liverpool is uncertain, broke his left leg while playing for the club in October 2004. The former Auxerre forward, who was linked with a move to Marseille after the World Cup, was replaced by David Trezeguet, who went on to score France's opener. Ex-Arsenal and Manchester City striker Nicolas Anelka, now of Fenerbahce, and Barcelona's Ludovic Giuly are in line to replace Cisse in the French squad.
