The top catcher and prospect in the minors, he has the entire package.
He swings a solid bat, hitting for a high BA, drawing walks, and stroking
doubles to the middle of the field. He hasn't hit many home runs, as he
still doesn't pull the ball hard or get sufficient lift to his hits, but
scouts believe it will come. His defense is as solid as you can get,
showing above average skills in every aspect of catching. With the trade
of AJ Pierzynski, Mauer is the favorite to begin the 2004 season as the
Twins' starter.
