Ferdinand had been all set to make his Red Devils return following a six-match absence, but another back spasm put paid to the England international's availability. Ferguson has now confirmed the defender will see a back specialist as he is particularly disappointed the 30-year-old was ruled out of the crunch clash against The Blues. Ferdinand's continued absence meant promising stopper Jonny Evans maintained his fledgling partnership with Nemanja Vidic against Luis Felipe Scolari's side. "He's trained all week and had no issues at all," he told Sky Sports 1. "This morning he woke up with another spasm. So it's a big, big problem for us. "This has been going on for a while now. So we're sending him to a specialist (on Monday) to do another scan. "We're going to have to try and get to the bottom of it because it's a disappointment, particularly in such a big game."
